Hand Washing Information

Fighting the spread of flu germs requires the cooperation of everyone in our communities and the single, most effective measure we all can take is to practice proper hand hygiene. Wash your hands frequently, especially if visiting someone in a hospital or long-term care facility. According to the CDC, you should wash your hands with soap and water when they are visibly soiled and alcohol-based handrubs are strongly recommended for routinely decontaminating hands between washings (see poster below). Careful attention to personal hygiene is key to avoiding infections. Do not share personal items such as towels or razors with another person. Cover all wounds with a clean bandage, and avoid contact with other people's soiled bandages. If you share sporting equipment, clean it first with antiseptic solution.
Our Infection Prevention Office is available for any specific concerns or question you may have by calling 363-6000, EXT. # 1138.
